Camera operator
- Independent contractor
- Per game or Hourly
- Long Island, NY and Connecticut
- Ongoing hiring
The role
Run the main game camera on our live broadcasts. Most of our broadcasts are single camera, so your shot is what viewers watch for the whole game. Crews are small, usually you and an announcer, so you also set up and pack the kit.
We supply the camera, tripod, audio kit and encoder, and train you on the setup before your first game. The season is underway, and we bring on camera operators on an ongoing basis.
Responsibilities
- Follow the play for the full game, keeping the puck or ball and the players around it in frame
- Set up the camera, tripod and cabling before the game and pack the kit afterward
- Connect the camera to the encoder and confirm picture and sound with the announcer or producer before going live
- Hold steady framing on faceoffs, goals, penalties and stoppages
- Look after the equipment and report any problem the same night
- Arrive 45 to 60 minutes before game time for setup
Qualifications
- Live camera experience from college athletics streaming, campus TV, a film or TV program, or paid work. Current college students and recent graduates are welcome.
- Able to follow fast play smoothly on a tripod for a full game
- Based on Long Island or in southern Connecticut, with reliable transportation to the rink or field
- Available weeknights and weekends through the season. Weekend availability, Sundays in particular, is a plus.
- Able to carry and set up a camera kit
Nice to have
- Experience shooting hockey or another fast sport
- Experience with OBS, Wirecast, PTZ cameras or live encoders
- Interest in learning the producer seat or shooting highlights
Compensation
Paid per game as a 1099 independent contractor. Scheduling and time tracking run through Connecteam.
A regular weekly schedule is available, along with additional paid work across our video and highlight production services.
