Hockey Play-by-play announcer

The role

Call live hockey games as the lead voice on our broadcasts, from warmups through the final horn. You work alongside a color analyst or solo, depending on the assignment.

We are filling multiple positions, covering games on Long Island and Connecticut. The season begins in October.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver accurate play-by-play for live hockey broadcasts
  • Prepare rosters, storylines, standings and player notes before each game
  • Coordinate with the producer and camera operator on the show open, intermissions and close
  • Track scoring, penalties and game situation in real time
  • Represent LISN with coaches, league officials and rink staff
  • Arrive 45 to 60 minutes before puck drop for setup and audio check

Qualifications

  • Play-by-play experience from broadcast school, college radio or TV, or prior live work. A demo reel is required.
  • Working knowledge of hockey rules, terminology and flow
  • Based in or near your assigned market, with reliable transportation to the rink
  • Available weeknights and weekends through the season
  • Comfortable with headset and mixer audio in a small-crew environment

Nice to have

  • Experience calling high school, junior or college hockey
  • Experience with OBS, Singular.live graphics, or similar broadcast tools
  • Ability to also handle color, hosting or social clips

Compensation

Paid per game as a 1099 independent contractor. Scheduling and time tracking run through Connecteam.

A regular weekly schedule is available, along with additional paid work across our video and highlight production services.
